over 20 years the traffic has increased. About the same for most major cities. Public transport has changed with the london congestion zone, the onslaught of bus and cycle lanes and the never ending campaign of traffic calming. You cant drink alcohol on the tube. Most people people do not drink on the tube.
Shouldnt you be doing your own research for your homework?

There is a charge for driving in central London and roads are ever more congested too. London’s dense and frequent public transport system – Underground/buses/light rail/suburban rail/trams/riverboats has seen a huge increase in frequencies and ridership over the past 10 years in particular. Outside London on the national rail system ridership has increased by 50% since semi privatisation commemced in 1996 and there has been a big increase in train frequencies too. After decades of decline in local bus travel outside London, there have been small increases in passenger volumes in recent years. Rural bus services which are usually subsidised, face huge cutbacks

London traffic has increased by a huge amount over the last 20 years, so much so that you can only wonder at how it is going to function in another 20 years, but this is not the only place to suffer this, all global capitals and large cities face the same problem as we are gradually over populating the planet, the idea of having a car is something that will become a luxury and not for the everyday people. in Beijing a person took 5 hours to get to his home on the outskirts of Beijing (this was recently on the China TV) this is how serious the problem is becoming globally.
