I work in East London – looking forward to all this like a hole in the head.

Given the amount of regeneration and employment it has created it is difficult to complain too much about the expenditure – so a bit ambivalent on that front – although the stadium is dull compared with the Bejing Bird’s Nest job.

Much more worried about it all going like Munich in 72 ie being a massive terrorist opportunity.

    I agree it’s a a colossal waste of money but I won’t be avoiding the city, I can’t as I work there.

I’m avoiding London like the plague during the Olympics. Not only because of the congestion, but because of the massive terrorist opportunities. If it doesn’t happen at an Olympic sight, it could happen in another part of London where there is little police presence due to them being occupied elsewhere. I sound like a massive paranoid parrot.

I do think the money could have been so much better spent though. We’ve been told it will be good for the economy, but only a very few businesses will benefit from it. I guess nobody could have predicted the economic troubles we are having now back when we won the bid but the money is needed in so many more places. Homeless shelters, schools, hospitals and especially policing.

Yes the news people are really doing what they do best in over hyping something, however I do understand the travel will be an issue but what is more of a concern is the PRICE. I’d rather go abroad all inclusive on a sunny beach. Fuck London.

Transport chaos is a rather general phrase. Obviously the buses, Underground and rail lines serving Stratford will be over crowded at times, but there will also be a special train service every 7 minutes from London St Pancras to Stratford during the games along HS1 the Channel Tunnel route, taking 5 minutes for the trip. All the publicity will urge spectators to use this service wherever possible.
I think the expenditure on the games and the stadium are a complete waste of money. London is full of tourists anyway during the summer. It should have been spent on low cost social housing instead.
The building of this would also have created many jobs
